In school, I was pretty good at the beginning of the year for having essentials… by the second week I was usually lucky to remember to bring a pen in. So, I thought I’d share what I always kept in my bag (from the dates of September 1st – September 14th). I’m also blaming this blog for the massive amounts of stationary I’m going to go and order.
The best bag I ever used for school was a large tote-style one from Topshop, I got just before I started college and swapped it at the end of my first year but it’s still in amazing condition and I use this as my usual day-to-day handbag / work bag! It has a compartment at the front, a zip part inside and a space to fit your phone!
The obvious thing I kept in my bag was a pencil case! I’m a visual learner, colours are my thing when it comes to work so my pencil case was full of felt tips, fine liners, and highlighters as well as the usual stuff. I always kept two black biro’s, one blue and one red, 3 pencils, a pencil sharpener / rubber combo, ruler and tip-ex.
The second thing I kept in my bag, and still have in there today, was a ‘girl-bag’, basically containing everything apart from the kitchen sink. I had 2 period pads in case of emergencies – your emergency or someone else’s, paracetamol, plasters, gum, deodorant, mini-perfume, a pack of tissues, hand-sanitiser, a lip-balm and any make-up to touch up through-out the day. This usually included concealer, powder, lipstick and a small mirror.
The most helpful thing I ever bought and kept in my bag was an academic year diary. These usually go from September to August (the academic year) and have a timetable section which is so useful if you’re like me and never remember where you’re meant to be and when you’re meant to be there. It also has every day in it, and space for notes which I used for remembering homework!
Another not-so-essential thing for school but definitely for college is an A4 notebook. I was always forgetting the right book to take notes in so keeping one of these constantly in my bag was fairly useful in making me look like I knew what I was doing… even though I spent 2 years floating around really not sure what was going on.
I’d also keep my laptop in my bag, this isn’t essential at all I just enjoyed avoiding work in my free periods and using it to hide my phone (lol sorry to my film teacher who knew exactly was I had my laptop out for).
If you’re like me and always on your phone, a phone charger and a portable charger are lifesavers to keep in the bottom of your bag.
Being the world’s hungriest person made me realise the importance of keeping food in your bag. I’d normally opt for a pre-wrapped croissant or dried fruit just to keep me going between meals. (also, v good at being snuck in lessons just saying).
I think that’s pretty much it for my school bag essentials, other than the mini-bottles of vodka the year 13’s sneak in to get through the day but I don’t actually recommend doing that usually causes a lot of trouble…
